However, if you're smart and know how to get things done and think that you should work for 10gen then ping us. Even if the above slots aren't a perfect fit, we understand that most of the smart people work elsewhere and we want to do something about that.

The Challenge

10gen is developing a revolutionary application server platform designed to help developers more easily build, test and deploy complex and scalable Web applications hosted on large, managed grid computing environments, commonly referred to as "cloud computing".

The platform is architected from the start for cloud computing deployments. Its customizable application stack is a complete platform that provides a high-performance database and an optimized server runtime environment.

The Team

Led by internationally recognized leaders in Internet infrastructure and open source, we are looking for world-class engineers that are smart, adaptable and get things done. We expect a high level of demonstrated technical mastery, and your drive, passion and ability to work with the team are just as important as your professional abilities. We are hiring at all levels.

All candidates must be team players with a personable demeanor - we work together very closely. As we're focused on building our team in the heart of New York's "Silicon Alley", applicants need to be able to work daily in our main office in New York City.

The Benefits

For all of our jobs, we offer a competitive salary and vacation, a competitive benefits package, and a nice work environment with other smart people. We work hard but with a purpose: we want to make an impact on an exciting new area of computing. All employees participate in the success of 10gen via our options program.

Technology Connector

Are you a developer who blogs actively (and comments on other blogs)? Do you love presenting at a conference as much as writing code? Have you meaningfully contributed to an open source project? Do you like meeting new people? Do you relish explaining how something works and why it's the coolest thing since sliced bread? Do you enjoy traveling around the country (the world)?

If you can answer yes to all of the above then we have a great opportunity for you. You will be responsible for connecting the 10gen team and technology with developers around the world. The software will be open source and you will be in charge of facilitating the growth of a community.

The job is based in New York.

Software Engineers (Senior and Junior) — New York

Our software engineers design, implement and test the 10gen platform. We have opportunities at all levels of the stack : the core app server and database, the grid infrastructure, the admin and operations tools, the app framework and user libraries and more. Whatever you work on, you'll be asked to participate in the full software lifecycle. We primarily work in C++, Java, JavaScript, and Ruby. We think a lot about AJAX, web application design patterns, high-performance infrastructure and distributed computing. Open source plays a significant role in our strategy, so general familiarity with the licensing and community dynamics of open source projects is helpful.

The Requirements

Professional Services Engineer — New York

10gen is seeking an outward-facing engineer to assist in the development and deployment of client applications on the 10gen cloud computing platform.

Engineers in our professional services group work with clients and potential clients better understand, develop, deploy and manage their applications. At the same time, they help the engineering team evolve the platform to better serve existing clients, and make it more attractive for future clients and market opportunities. We're looking for smart, rock-solid technicians who have the ability to work with people and get things done.

Qualifications

Software Engineer: Test/Release — New York

We are looking for software engineers that specialize in software test and release engineering. These team members will focus on our testing infrastructure, developing frameworks and methodologies to test the 10gen platform - application server, database, grid management and libraries. With new technology for an emerging technology space, we need test and release frameworks designed for the scale of software we are creating. See the above engineer job for more information.

The Requirements

Eclipse Platform Engineer — New York

Our Eclipse Platform Engineer will lead the development of Eclipse-based tooling for the 10gen platform. We need everything from the ability to work with a local appserver to a cloud-capable debugger to deployment and management. Besides the development of the Eclipse-specific components, you'll work with the rest of the development team to better tailor the 10gen platform for modern tool integration. This is a key role and a great opportunity for the right person.

The Requirements

Ruby and Rails Engineer — New York

At 10gen, we have a broad and deep interest in the integration of dynamic languages and cloud computing. While JavaScript was the language we started with, we're now looking at Ruby. The Ruby and Rails engineer will lead the development of our Ruby and Rails efforts, helping us understand the Ruby language, the Rails framework and the culture of the Ruby/Rails community.

The Requirements

Technical Writer, Software Engineering — New York

Technical writers take complex technical information and communicate it in a lucid, concise and accurate manner. Our responsibilities include writing documentation for internal and external developers, for operations, and for applications that are used internally. We look for talented writers who are passionate about writing, quick to learn, highly technical and eager to become part of the engineering and operations teams.

Our software engineering group is looking for the very best technical writers to document a diversity of software-related topics, including overviews, procedures, APIs, SDKs, QA issues and more. Our team writes for both internal and external developers and software engineers. We are looking for writers of all levels of seniority, who have a high technical aptitude, are passionate about technical writing, and who write excellent documentation.

When you're reading software documentation, do you quickly figure out how the documentation could be improved? Have you written php scripts, applets, JavaScript scripts and the like just for fun? When you encounter technologies that you are not familiar with, do you just go ahead and learn them? Do you love writing clear, accurate and helpful software documentation? Is the need to help your readers understand a technology and get going with it the overriding goal of everything you write?

If so, send us your resume!
