Dwight Merriman, Chairman and Co-Founder

Dwight is one of the original authors of MongoDB, the open-source document database. In 1995, he co-founded DoubleClick (acquired by Google for $3.1 billion) and served as Chief Technology Officer for 10 years. Dwight was the architect of the DoubleClick ad serving infrastructure, DART, which serves tens of billions of ads per day. Earlier he was Co-Founder, Chairman, and the original architect of Panther Express (merged with CDNetworks), a content distribution network (CDN) technology. Dwight is also a Co-Founder of, and investor in, Business Insider and Gilt Groupe.

Max Schireson, CEO

Prior to 10gen, Max spent over seven years at MarkLogic, provider of a database for unstructured information, where he played a variety of executive roles including Chief Operating Officer. Under his leadership, MarkLogic ranked as the fourth fastest growing software company in Silicon Valley in Deloitte’s 2008 Technology Fast 50. Before MarkLogic, Max spent nine years at Oracle where he served as Chief Applications Architect and Vice President, ECommerce and Self Service Applications. He is also the National Co-Chair of Technology for Obama.

Eliot Horowitz, CTO and Co-Founder

Eliot is one of the core MongoDB kernel committers. Previously, he was Co-Founder and CTO of ShopWiki. Eliot developed the crawling and data extraction algorithm that is the core of its innovative technology. He has quickly become one of Silicon Alley's up and coming entrepreneurs and was selected as one of BusinessWeek's Top 25 Entrepreneurs Under Age 25 nationwide in 2006. Earlier, Eliot was a software developer in the R&D group at DoubleClick (acquired by Google for $3.1 billion). Eliot received a B.S. in Computer Science from Brown University.

Sydney Carey, CFO

Prior to 10gen, Sydney spent 9 years at TIBCO, most recently as EVP and CFO. She was promoted from VP of Finance to CFO in January 2009. Earlier, she was CFO at Autonomic Networks (also known as Vernier Networks), a provider of network access control solutions, and Pacific Broadband Communications, where she directed the company through its acquisition by Juniper Networks. Sydney has also held a variety of positions at Network Associates, including VP of Worldwide Sales Finance and Operations. She holds a B.A. in economics from Stanford University.

Philip Carty, Senior VP Worldwide Sales

Prior to 10gen, Philip spent six years at Successfactors (acquired by SAP), the leading provider of business execution software, where he was Global VP of Sales across all markets and segments. Under Philip's leadership and together with the extended team, Successfactors achieved CAGR of more than 85%. Before Successfactors, he led highly successful sales teams at Red Hat, Veritas (acquired by Symantec), Oracle and ADP. Philip's teams are known for high performance, broad participation across the team, dynamic org structures and winning, positive culture.

Ron Avnur, VP Services and Product Management

Prior to 10gen, Ron was the CTO and SVP of engineering at MarkLogic, a petabyte-scale database trusted by financial services, government agencies and publishers to power mission-critical applications. He was one of the first MarkLogic employees as a senior engineer. Additionally, Ron worked in a variety of roles at Cohera (acquired by PeopleSoft), Business Layers (acquired by Netegrity) and Informix (acquired by IBM). He received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and M.S. in Computer Science from The University of California, Berkeley.

Kurt Daniel, VP Marketing, Business Development and Strategy

Kurt leads marketing, business development, strategy and the online business unit. Before 10gen, he was the COO at Worklight, a successful mobile and tablet software company (acquired by IBM). Earlier, Kurt was a Senior VP at Parallels, a successful virtualization and cloud software company. He was also a Lead Product Manager at Microsoft for SQL Server with $1.5 billion in revenue and a general management consultant at A.T. Kearney (acquired by EDS, now HP). Kurt has a B.A. in Economics from the University of Virginia and an M.B.A. from Harvard University.

Andrew Erlichson, VP Education and Cloud Services

Andrew was CEO and Founder of Phanfare (acquired by Carbonite), an online photo hosting company. Earlier, he was Founder and CEO of Flashbase (acquired by DoubleClick), a web service that offered self-service online database forms and analysis tools. At DoubleClick (acquired by Google), Andrew was Vice President of Technology in the Research and Development group. He has worked at Mips Computer Systems, Silicon Graphics and BlackRock. Andrew has an A.B. from Dartmouth College and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.

Matt Asay, VP Corporate Strategy

Before 10gen, Matt was Vice President of Business Development at Nodeable (acquired by Appcelerator), a provider of real-time data stream processing for big data applications, and also at Strobe (acquired by Facebook). He was Chief Operating Officer at Canonical, ran the Americas for Alfresco and founded the Open Source Business Conference. Matt writes a regular column for ReadWrite and The Register. He has a B.A. from Brigham Young University in English and Political Science, an M.A. from the University of Kent and a J.D. from Stanford University.

Martin Cooke, VP Human Resources

Martin brings more than 20 years of HR, recruitment and training experience to 10gen driving world class initiatives with global companies and helping enterprise software start-ups recruit and develop world class teams and great places to work. Earlier, he drove the first Total Quality Management programs to bring in new technology and working practices in the publishing industry. Martin then switched his career to software where he was part of the Business Objects success story before going on to consult with multiple global and start up companies.

Joe Morrissey, VP EMEA

Prior to 10gen, Joe was at Oracle where he most recently led MySQL sales across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Prior to Oracle's acquisition of Sun Microsystems, he served both as senior director of EMEA and global telecoms sales. Previous to that, Joe conceived, built and led MySQL's telecoms vertical where as Vice President of Global Telecoms he grew bookings from $3 million to over $25 million in under three years. Before MySQL, Joe worked at Oracle for eight years. He has a B.A. in Economics and Marketing from the University of Limerick.

Lily Teng, VP Finance

Prior to 10gen, Lily was Vice President of Finance and Administration at Auditude, Chief Financial Officer for imeem (acquired by MySpace), Vice President of Finance and Adminsitration at FoundValue and has held key finance and corporate development roles at PeopleSoft (acquired by Oracle), Quantum Corporation and AMD. She is a CPA and holds an M.B.A. from The Anderson School of Management at UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) and a B.S. from The Haas School of Business at University of California, Berkeley.

Kevin P. Ryan, Founder and Chairman, Gilt Groupe

Kevin P. Ryan is the Founder and Chairman of Gilt Groupe, an innovative e-commerce company offering highly coveted products and experiences at insider prices. In 2007, Kevin along with a founding team created Gilt Groupe as an invitation-only site for coveted women’s apparel and accessories. Today, Gilt Groupe has over three million members and has added business lines in home; children; men’s apparel and gear (GiltMAN); vacation travel (Jetsetter); local services and experiences (Gilt City), and has launched the leading flash-sale site in Japan (Gilt Japan). Kevin is one of the leading Internet entrepreneurs in the United States having founded several New York-based businesses, including Gilt Groupe, Business Insider, ShopWiki, and 10gen/MongoDB. Kevin helped build DoubleClick from 1996 to 2005, first as president and later as CEO. He fostered DoubleClick's growth from a 20-person startup to a global leader with over 1,500 employees. Currently, Kevin serves on the board of Yale Corporation, Human Rights Watch, the NYC Investment Fund and INSEAD, and is a member of the Yale International Council and the Council on Foreign Relations. He holds a BA from Yale University and an MBA from INSEAD.

Albert Wenger, Managing Partner, Union Square Ventures

Albert combines over 10 years of entrepreneurial experience with an in-depth technology background. As an entrepreneur, he has founded or co-founded five companies, including a management consulting firm (in Germany), a hosted data analytics company, a technology subsidiary for Telebanc (now E*Tradebank), an early stage investment firm, and most recently (with his wife), DailyLit, a service for reading books by email or RSS. Albert also served as the president of del.icio.us through the company's sale to Yahoo. His technology background goes back to winning the German national computer science competition at age 18. Albert graduated summa cum laude from Harvard college in economics and computer science and holds a Ph.D. in Information Technology from MIT. He has managed technology projects for organizations as diverse as Tacoda (startup) and Telebance (leading Internet bank). Albert currently serves on the boards of Clickable, a platform for managing online advertising; and Maptuit, a provider of realtime navigation; he is a board observer at Etsy, an online marketplace for handmade goods. Albert is married with three kids and lives in Scarsdale, New York.

Chip Hazard, General Partner, Flybridge Capital Partners

Chip is a General Partner at Flybridge Capital Partners whose investment interests and experience broadly cover companies and technologies in the information technology sector. He currently represents the firm on the boards of 1-800-FREE411 (Jingle Networks), 10gen, First Best Systems, Infobright, Placemark, Reveal Imaging, and Sciformix and was previously a director at Bowstreet (acquired by IBM), mValent (acquired by Oracle) and SupplyScape (acquired by TraceLink). Before joining Flybridge in May 2002, Chip was a General Partner with Greylock Partners, a leading venture capital firm he joined in 1994. While at Greylock, Chip led or participated in numerous successful investments in the enterprise information technology field including Narrative Communications (acquired by @Home), Idiom Technologies (acquired by SDL), iPhrase Technologies (acquired by IBM), IBA (acquired by ServiceSoft/Kana), Storage Networks (IPO), Totality (acquired by MCI) and the Vincam Group (IPO in 1996, acquired by ADP). Prior to Greylock, he was with Company Assistance Limited, an investment and consulting firm in Warsaw Poland; and Bain and Company, an international management consulting firm. Chip received a BA with honors from Stanford University and an MBA from Harvard Business School where he was a Baker Scholar and a Ford Scholar.

Luis works with cloud computing, software, and enterprise companies at Sequoia Capital. Sequoia Capital provides funding to founders of startups who want to build enduring companies. As the "Entrepreneurs Behind the Entrepreneurs", Sequoia Capital's Partners have worked wtih innovators such as Steve Jobs of Apple, Larry Ellison of Oracle, Larry Page and Sergey Brin of Google, Reid Hoffman and Jeff Weiner of LinkedIn and Sandy Lerner, Len Bozack of Cisco Systems, Dan Warmenhoven of NetApp, Jen-Hsun Huang of NVIDIA, Chad Hurley and Steve Chen of YouTube, Dominic Orr and Keerti Melkote of Aruba Networks, Tony Hsieh of Zappos, Omar Hamoui of Admob, Steve Streit of Green Dot, Bob Swanson of Linear Technology and Michael Marks of Flextronics. Harry focuses on early stage consumer, enterprise and energy technology investing, and helped found NEA's China practice. He is frequently recognized as one of America’s top venture capitalists, with recent honors including the Forbes “Midas List”, Washingtonian’s "Titans of Technology” and Business Insider’s “Top 5 East Coast VCs”. Harry is also the Chairman and Co-Founder of Harvard University's Experiment Fund. Prior to joining NEA, Harry was a Partner at FBR Technology Venture Partners where he learned the costs and benefits of a bubble! Mark Burton, 10gen Board Advisor and Observer

Mark Burton is an accomplished software executive who advises 10gen’s CEO, Executive Team and Board of Directors on company strategy and operations. Mark’s recent experience includes the Executive Chairman role at Zend Technologies as well as Independent Board Member and Advisor positions at MuleSoft, Jaspersoft and Infobright. His operating background includes successful executive roles at MySQL (acquired by Sun Microsystems in 2009) and Informatica (IPO in 1999).
